Content DescriptionInforms him that the Danes are hoping for foreign assistance [in their war with Prussia]; Sweden was ready to help but would not act alone; comments that he preferred Lord Russell's speech to that of Lord Palmerston, and that Lord Grey was the only politician who saw the matter in a clear light; Lord Russell's statement was so ambiguous it could have been Bernstorff's; reports that the military commanders have permitted Augustenburg to be proclaimed; was not sure if Bismarck encouraged this; had seen from the papers that Lord Bloomfield had been shot; Quaade had shown him a letter from his [Bloomfield's] wife which he believed was to be forwarded to Lord Russell.
