Content Description | States that he is sorry that he [Buchanan] had been unwell; is glad to learn that Napier has got [the order of] the Thistle; returns with thanks his despatches; states that Rechberg was keeping his thoughts to himself and would only say that he and Bismarck were agreed on their policy to Denmark; did not think that Prussia would be happy with anything less than a personal union for the Duchies [with Denmark] and a separate administration; Rechberg maintained his opposition to the Augustenburg claim; informs him that Rechberg was unhappy at the ill feeling which existed between Prussia and England and of the bitterness expressed by Bismarck in the press; comments on the 'mess' the government have made of the Garibaldi visit. |
