Content DescriptionInforms him that the possibility of a conference [on the Schleswig-Holstein dispute] had failed due to the impossible position of the King of Denmark; states that he had offered the government his comments on the latest Blue Book, especially with regard to the favourable coverage of Bismarck's position; agrees that Denmark has mentally conceded the loss of Schleswig; comments on the attitude of Queen Victoria to European affairs and upon her health; expects to see General Manteuffel before he leaves Vienna and believed he was attempting to secure a common policy against any revolutionary movements; comments upon Austrian public opinion to the Schleswig dispute; reports on the health of Mrs Stachey and Julian Fane.

Discusses domestic politics with reference to the position of Lord Palmerston; asks if he had heard that Bernstorff wished the forthcoming conference to be in Brussels rather than London and that he disapproves of his government' policy in supporting the claim of Augustenburg [to Schleswig-Holstein].
