Content DescriptionThis series is principally made up of documents relating to the administrative functions of the Archdeaconry. It includes some papers relating to wills and administrations - the preliminary work on which was normally done within the Archdeaconry before being passed up to the higher probate registry in York; a small bundle of glebe terriers; a larger bundle of papers relating to the granting of faculties for alterations and repairs to church buildings; letter books and correspondence; papers relating to Synods, and to the election of clergy representatives to attend Convocation; and Archdeaconry returns from the Compton census of 1676, listing the numbers of recusants and dissenters in each parish.

Other bundles comprise more miscellaneous collections of documents, closely related to items in other series (most particularly, Citations and Excommunications), which were bundled together as a mixed group, or kept by Registrars of the Archdeaconry as precedents.

This series was re-ordered and re-numbered in November 2004, and expanded by bringing in various documents which had formerly been found in other series within the Archdeaconry archive, or which were formerly uncatalogued.
