Admin HistoryThe Library Photographic and Printing Unit was originally housed in the Trent Building and transferred to Level 1 of the Hallward Library in the 1970s. Following the reorganisation and merger of similar University services, the University Photographic and Printing Unit was based in the Engineering T1 Building, later named the Pope Building. As digital technology developed, the Photographic Unit (subsequently named both the Audio Visual and Education Services (AVES) and the University Media Centre), and by this time based at QMC, was closed c. 2004.
Custodial HistoryThe images have been transferred to Manuscripts and Special Collections at several stages since the 1990s.
DescriptionThis is a significant collection of University images which cover an extremely wide range of subjects. Predominantly covering the 1970s to the 1990s, the University photographers were specialists requested by different faculties and departments to capture on film important events, as well as buildings and facilities, and University staff and students. Many of the images would have been commissioned for publications, prospectuses etc. used to promote the University at the time.

This collection is still in the process of being sorted and catalogued.
