Admin History | By the 1950s the original University Library housed in the Trent Building was quite inadequate to meet staff and student demand. The Science Library (later named the George Green Library) was opened in 1964. The main Library (later named the Hallward Library) was opened in 1973. The Manuscripts Department (later Manuscripts and Special Collections) was accommodated in the Trent Building and subsequently in the temporary buildings known as ‘the cowsheds’, but also moved into the main (Hallward) Library on its opening. University Libraries currently forms part of professional services within the Registrar’s Department. There are Library sites at University Park, Queen’s Medical Centre, Jubilee Campus and at Sutton Bonington. Manuscripts and Special Collections is based at the University’s King’s Meadow Campus, together with other Libraries staff. Photographs from other professional service departments can be found at UMP/1. |
