Admin History
The maintenance of a photographic record of events at the University through the creation of photograph albums appears to have been the responsibility of the Registrar’s Department in the early years. Subsequently other departments also created their own photographic records and photograph albums.
Custodial History
The photograph albums have been transferred to Manuscripts and Special Collections from different departments within the University between 1972 and 2009.
Description
Photograph albums have been grouped together on account of their format rather than by provenance or by subject content. There are three photograph albums which consecutively record significant people and events at the University College and the University from the laying of the foundation stone of the new University College buildings in 1922 through to the University of Nottingham Degree Day in 1968. A further album includes images of University staff, dignitaries and others associated with the University College around the time of the opening of the buildings at Highfields in 1928. Other photographs albums record building developments and the Queen’s visit to the University in 1999.
