| Content Description | The vast majority of the photographs in this series are concerned with efforts made by the authority in the realm of flood prevention. Depicted are works such as regrading, designed to increase the river discharge rate and thus increase the amount of water that can be carried away in times of flood as well as the construction of physical barriers like walls and floodbanks in the event of such measures failing. A substantial core of the collection is devoted to other subjects. Recurrent topics include flooding, represented both from the ground and via aerial photography. Flood plain modelling is the subject of several series of photographs with images of a number of scale models included. Other subjects of interest include the visit of HRH Prince Philip to open Holme Sluice, and the Trent Aegir. Most of the photographs in the collection were taken in the mid 20th century; only a small percentage predate the 1930s. The photographs are arranged in six series. Three of the series relate to the main divisions of the Engineer's Department: the Home, Northern and Southern Divisions. There are two small series of photographs relating to the former Keadby Division and to plant machinery and a series of photographs relating to areas on the boundary of the Trent River Authority area. Within each series, photographs are arranged according to subject and date. |
