Content Description | The volume contains a copy of a victualling contract, drawn up on 31 December 1677, between King Charles II and Richard Brett and his partners. The latter party are contracted for the victualling of 'all such mariners, souldiers and others as from time to time shall be appointed to serve, not only in his Majesties owne shipps and vessells at ye seas, and for ye safe keeping of them in harbour, but also in any shipps or vessells yt shall be called & appointed to serve his Majesty from time to time'.
The contract runs for 45 pages, with much annotation in the margins, explaining or expanding on certain points.
On p 45 is written 'A true Copy according to the Entry thereof in the Office of the Comptroller of ye Victualling - Exp Wm. Prescott 29 Sepm 93'. |
