Content DescriptionThis manuscript volume consists of three sections. Folios 8-84 are comprised of medicinal recipes arranged in alphabetical order of afflication. Folios 85-105 and 179-85 are sections of miscellaneous medicinal recipes. There are a few culinary recipes interspersed with those of a medicinal nature.

While the vast majority of cures are for humans, there are a few for horses.

The sentence 'Elizabeth Penrhyn a gift from The Duke of Portland 1817' precedes the beginning of the text on f 8.

Brown calf leather on pasteboards originally blind stamped with 4 fillet lines around the borders of upper and lower covers, and double fillet lines forming a panel in centre of covers; gold stamped around border and around central panel is an additional decoration in a single fillet; a single ornamental crowned fleur de lis is also gold stamped in the four corners of central panel in both upper and lower covers; spine is divided into 12 panels which are separated by thin double fillets, also gold stamped; binding has no titles; pastedowns appear to be of the same paper which makes up the MS; covers originally were closed with two sets of ties which are now missing; volume is gold graphed.
