Content DescriptionThe volume covers the period 6 May 1705 to 29 March 1708, and is a record of the documents sealed by John Holles, 3rd Duke of Newcastle, in his capacity as Lord Privy Seal. Holles was appointed to this post in 1705.

It should be noted that roughly three quarters of the volume is blank. Only pp 1-40 contain text.

Countermark: Letters ID; one type of paper throughout.

Italic hand and large headings in brown ink. Front quarter of book is written; the remaining three quarters are blank. ff 1-40, written; ff 41-187r, blank; f 187v, written.

1700-1720s vellum on paste board binding; upper and lower covers are blind tooled with double fillet following the edges of the four outer borders; spine is left undecorated.
