The 'nine' refers to the nine lords who assisted Queen Mary with the government when King William III took command of the army in Ireland in June 1690: Dorset, Devonshire, Monmouth, Edward Russell, Carmarthen, Pembroke, Nottingham, Marlborough and Lowther.
It was written in answer to a libel entitled 'The Nine.' |
