Text consists of nine verses of irregular length.

The 'nine' refers to the nine lords who assisted Queen Mary with the government when King William III took command of the army in Ireland in June 1690: Dorset, Devonshire, Monmouth, Edward Russell, Carmarthen, Pembroke, Nottingham, Marlborough and Lowther.

It was written in answer to a libel entitled 'The Nine.'
