There is a Latin quotation above the title (Si Parva licet componere magnis - Virg: Ec:). This line is in fact Virgil, Georgics 4.176, not the similar line from Virgil, Eclogue 1.23. The poem is signed 'TW'.
The poem was written in honour of Lord Danby's fifth birthday and was sent in a letter dated 14th November [1718], to Abigail Harley, Lady Dupplin, (d 1750), daughter of the 1st Earl of Oxford and Danby's maternal aunt. |
