Content Description | Text consists of an 84-line poem in hexameters on the subject of Peckwater Quadrangle (Christ Church, Oxford).
Annotated with the name Mr Bromley; received 5 Dec. 1712.
Submitted for the Christ Church poetry competition 1712 (see Pw V 307).
Bromley took first prize in the competition, but Stratford told Lord Harley that the verses were in fact composed by [Noel] Broxholme (HMC, Portland VII pp 111-13; 16 and 17 Nov. 1712). The HMC index identifies Bromley as Speaker William Bromley, but this must surely be his son Thomas. |
