Descriptive Features
Watermark: Post Horn within large, ornate shield with ornate monogram of J. Whatman below the shield, approx. 150 x 75 mm
Italic
Deep red Morocco leather with similar ornamental tooling on both upper and lower covers; a border is formed, which frames an inner panel, by a gold stamped ornate roll of leaves and stems between two fillet lines; covers are also blind stamped with four fillet lines and the four corners decorated with a blind stamped fleur-de-lis tool; upper cover is gold stamped 'From Lord Geo. Bentinck to Michael Benson', this text is stamped on the space between the outer border and the inner field; spine is divided into four panels which are gold stamped with delicate stems and buds tools; panels are separated from each other by two double fillet lines; there are no titles on spine.
