Content Description
Volume containing 7 letters between W. Marson and John Ring debating various issues concerning vaccination against smallpox especially reasons why not all vaccinations were successful; includes comments on work of other contemporary physicians such as Robert Willan; letters all date from 1806 to 1807 and were mostly published in the 'Medical and Physical Journal'; includes one unpublished letter from Marson and one private letter from Ring to Marson; also includes commentary from Marson concerning background to the debate.
Volume is prefaced with letter from Marson to 4th Duke of Portland dated 1818 referring to failures of vaccinations on the Duke's estates and offering transcribed letters as holding possible explanations.

Limp covers of paper covered with marble paper; no labels or decorations.
