Written on ruled paper

Vellum on layers of thick paper, richly gold tooled and painted in red and green on both upper and lower covers; a single fillet line around four outer borders with all four corners displaying a tulip with buds and leaves; single fillet lines form a central oblong panels, which is decorated with two roses on curved stems with leaves, on each outer corner; inner corners of inner panel have one further stamp of flower and leaves; central point of all fillets are decorated with a semi-circular seal with leaves and a central tulip.

A further tool, oval shaped containing a six-petal flower, is repeated 12 times in both central panel and field around panel (this same tool is stamped five times along spine); this elaborate gold stamped binding has a quatrefoil painted green in centre of central panel; upper cover has figure '2' written in black ink on central panel; both front and back pastedowns and flyleaves are made of marbled paper; volume is gold graphed
