Pw2Hy - Papers of the Harley Family, 1602-1738, in the Portland (Welbeck) Collection
Pw2 Hy 700
Draft letter from Robert Harley [later 1st Earl of Oxford], to Mr [Alexander] Stanhope; 6/17 Jul. 1705
17 July 1705
Discusses the increases made to the fleet; says that the queen has been obliged to add '22 great ships of the line' which was more than her original 'quote'; complains that the [Dutch?] have not sent any ships to join Lord Carmarthen; reports that Mr Vryberge assured the Lords that they would comply with this and send the ships as promised; however this has not been done; explains that the queen will send no further funds unless the States make the promised payment in return; hopes that Stanhope and Lord Sunderland have had successful talks with the States with regard too the 'contraband and passeports'.
