Date30 January 1713
Extent2 ff
LevelItem/file
Content DescriptionAcknowledges receipt of a letter; expresses his pleasure that Oxford continues his protestations of 'constant freindship for me' and his inclination to restore the former good relations; says that the 'affairs between England and the States are finished'; discusses the appearance of letters about the 'treaty of Barriere' in English news papers; complains that these letters were communicated to the 'members of the Regency' on 'oath of secrecy' and should not have become public; believes that some 'malitious and disaffected people on both sides' are attempting to sabotage the negotiations; agrees with Oxford's words regarding the ways in which the Roman Catholic priests 'accomodate differences between themselves' and upon the 'new rupture of the Turks'.

Hopes that the Duke of Shrewsbury will move forward at Utrecht as the sooner the treaty is complete, the 'greater the opportunity will be to give quiet to all Europe' and restore prosperity after a 'bloody war'.
