TitleLetter from John Powell; n.d. [1774-1778]
Date1774-1778
Extent2 ff
LevelItem/file
Content DescriptionRefers to legal proceedings in Chancery started in 1761 by the late [2nd] Duke of Portland; the dispute related to a legacy owed by the executrix of Lord George Bentinck to the Duke; writes that costs incurred by Lord Digby should have been paid by the present [3rd] Duke a number of years previously; explains that the bill was erroneously charged to the account of Earl Ferrers (the owner of estates mortgaged to Lord Digby); requests payment of the sum to himself as executor of Henry [Fox], Lord Holland.

Date estimated from internal evidence; possibly 1778 because part of an '8' can be seen on the damaged edge of the paper.

See sections Pl F3/3 and Pl F5/9 for mortgages and litigations involving Powell, the Portlands and the Fox and Digby families.
