Content DescriptionSends compliments and thanks for kindnesses; is well and successful, but has found it expensive to settle on the island; asks for an advance of £100 and promises to send some rum in return; sends news of others who have set up business in Jamaica; writes that the letters of introduction by Mr Collett which he came out with did not help him to find a position; asks that Mr Harvey be prevailed upon to obtain others for him, and especially asks for recommendation by Mr Rigby; lists positions on the island to which he would like to be recommended, and specifies that Mr Heaton will help him if he is applied to; sends news of Joe Sanders who is prospering; writes that he [the writer] has been successful in business at Savanna le Mar, and is confident of becoming more rich than 'any of my family since Adam'.
