Content DescriptionWriters explain that they have been appointed as 'Commissioners for enquiring into the state and condition of the Woods Forests and Land Revenues of the Crown'; they have received a letter from a surveyor Mr Renshaw, written by Mr William Gould of Welbeck referring to the Duke's claim to certain rights in the woods of Birkland and Bilhay [Bilhagh] in Sherwood Forest, and in the manors of Mansfield and Edwinstowe; requests further information from the Duke's agent in respect of claims to Birkland, Bilhay, Noman's Wood alias Forsworn Wood, and Lindhurst Wood, which they believed was all Crown property.
