Content DescriptionWrites to the duke of a matter which he sees as important to the education of the youth of the country; explains that by the death of Professor Miller of Glasgow, the right to present the chair of civil law of that University is vacant; believes that the duke will not recommend a successor to the king without hearing the merits of all the possible candidates; realises that the Duke of Montrose will guard against any solicitation but explains that any recommendation he [Dundas] might make would only be prompted by concern for public interest; suggests that Mr William Rae be appointed to the sheriffship of Orkney without further delay.
