Content DescriptionExplains how he has been promised a 'comfortable situation' for years; when the vacancy in the 'Port Surveyor's Place' of Drogheda came up he was told it was his and so paid the fees of the commission as was desired by Lord Cornwallis; was then disappointed to hear that another Lord Lieutenant may come over; explains his mortification over this matter; argues that he will only succeed if the duke helps him, 'an old officer who was of your family'; solicits the duke's help in getting for him the position of aide de camp and gentlemen of the bedchamber to the Lord Lieutenant, positions he had held in the duke's family; mentions the difficulties of maintaining his large family.
