Content DescriptionThanks Thomond for his letter containing the Lord Lieutenant's answer to what Thomond had written to him as a result of Lord Rossmore's death; refers to comments he [the duke] made in his last letter; thinks that Thomond will be successful in his application [to be appointed to the vacancy in the Representative Peerage in Ireland], and that he probably will have no competitors; asks that Thomond keeps this confidential and only tells the Lord Lieutenant [Earl of Hardwicke] that he has had the strongest support in putting himself forward as a candidate; mentions that the Lord Lieutenant was right when he told Thomond that he heard nothing from the duke respecting Thomond's application to the first vacancy in the Representative Peerage; explains why this was the case; regrets that Thomond has been held in suspense so long.
