Explains that he has heard that their regiment is to be reduced and that many officers are concerned; hopes it is not improper to ask to know the details of such a reduction; mentions the surprise of everyone there at the death of Evelyn Pierrepont; comments that the General was very upset, although has now recovered; fears that William [Bentinck] did not arrive in time to witness the 'final operations of the Egyptian business', which he knows he will regret.
