Content DescriptionWrites that John Newton and his father in law Thomas Bush (the High Sheriff for Wiltshire) were both nominated for that office last year; Bush wanted the position expecting that his son in law, 24 and new to the clothing industry, would hereafter be excused from serving as sheriff; therefore, requests that the name of John Newton of Bradford [-on-Avon] be omitted from the lists of nominees as it is unusual for 2 of the same family to be appointed to 'that expensive tho' honourable office' in a short period of time.
