Content Description | Has called on Mr Higgins of Upper Grosvenor Street; has not had an answer to his letter from Dublin last week; thinks his friend deferred writing until he saw the captain of the Jamaica ships and assured himself of details of the export; he expects a letter today and will pass it onto the duke when he receives it; with regard to the letter the duke will write to Governor Beaujour, suggests that the £500 might commence with the beginning of the year; has suggested to Mr King how £500 may be raised, £300 from Demerara, £100 from Essequibo and £100 from Berbice; repeats that this amount is minute compared to what might be had; is sure that if asked 1795, the inhabitants would have offered him half their properties for the 'salvation' he brought; writes that while the sum of £500 is small, it will make a material difference to him.
Endorsement reads 'R[eceived] 5 March 1801'. |
