Content DescriptionHas passed on the contents of the duke's letter to Mr Lucas and some of the other Hasland freeholders; they want an advertisement to be placed in the Derby papers for a meeting at Chesterfield on the 24th to consider the enclosure and the duke's terms; thinks that the duke's terms will be consented to; discusses whether an eighteenth or a twentieth should be allotted to the duke for his share as Lord; explains that Mr Lax suggested an eighteenth to cover for 'damage' in getting the coal; hears that some of the freeholders suggested that he and Mr Lax should conduct it jointly as it will cost them no more than having one solicitor; has written to Mr Cleaver to tell him of the meeting; asks the duke to let them know which of them he will chose to be his solicitor.
