Content Description
Describes in detail the proposed movement of tenants between houses and cottages on the estate; lists which houses certain tenants would like to lease and the alterations which they would want made; states that one single woman presently living in a cottage would be put into service and her illegitimate child taken away from her; adds that one house would be divided into two tenements so no new houses would need to be built.
Mentions a proposal to divide the ground at Stephen Hawk's farm which he thinks will not be done as it is better to use the land which goes down to the river as a sheep walk; writes that the late Charles Gunter's brother Thomas has enquired after a box of clothes promised to him, which was sent to Dover Street and is in the custody of Mr Cuttle.
Suggests that when 'my Lady' [Henrietta Countess of Oxford] sends the box to Herefordshire she could also send the £5 left to him by his brother and which needs to be paid within three months of 12 November; writes that William Ratford and his men are waiting for orders before they fell trees for the year's repairs; was pleased to hear of Lord Dupplin's victory in the election; will distribute the usual charity on Wednesday.
Letter dated 8 Jan. 1735/6.
