Apologises for the delay in sending the 'Garden Stuff'; explains that the gardener did not have the things to hand; hopes they will arrive 'early enough for Dinn. Tomorrow'; writes that it is raining hard which is good for the grass and the crops; has asked two brothers called Denton from Nottinghamshire for an estimate of the cost of removing the mud from the big fish pond, and for their help with the reservoir; asks for the earl's approval of employing the men; adds that Sir Thomas Tipping is rumoured to be standing for election.
