Pl Y is a series of copy out-letters, costing sheets and diary/attendance entries of the law firm Messrs Baileys, Shaw and Gillett, July 1939-Dec. 1940. The records cover all of the firm's business, not only that concerning the Portland family. The records include items relating to the Duke of Portland's estates (in Aldrington, Derbyshire, Northumberland and Nottinghamshire), and the Howard de Walden Marylebone estate. The matrimonial affairs of Victor ['Bill'] Cavendish-Bentinck, the future 9th Duke of Portland, also feature.
Arranged in chronological bundles Y1-Y269 for the period 31 July 1939-19 Sept. 1940; Y270 is for part of Dec. 1940; Y271 contains only stray diary entries and cost sheets for Aug.-Sept. 1939, and Y272 the same for Apr.-June 1940. |
