Content Description	Declines to give up his annuities for what he paid for them - as the Duke of Portland suggested in his letter of July 1737 (Pl F2/4/54) - but is happy to negotiate through his friend Mr Bance. Annoyed at the defamatory insinuations levelled against him when he saved the Duke from ruin and advanced money to pay the jointure of the Duchess Dowager.
