Content DescriptionFor more detailed descriptions see sections Pl F1/1-5 below.

Section Pl F1/1 concerns offices, honours and public appointments; Pl F1/2 concerns the financial affairs of the 1st Duke of Portland as Governor of Jamaica during the 1720s; Pl F1/3 contains domestic, personal and private accounts (mainly vouchers) for the 1st Duke of Portland (as Viscount Woodstock etc.), the 2nd Duke of Portland's executors, John Achard, the 3rd Duke of Portland (some relating to the profits of office), the 4th Duke of Portland (as Marquess of Titchfield), and Lord Edward Bentinck; Pl F1/4 contains a number of miscellaneous personal and family items, notably the commonplace book of Brilliana Conway (Lady Harley) and material relating to family tombs and monuments; and Pl F1/5 the speeches of Lord George Bentinck, MP as reported in 'The Morning Post'.

This is an omnium gatherum for material that is family and financial rather than estate in nature, but has no real connection with the settlements, trust and mortgages forming the heart of the 'F' section of the catalogue.
