Admin HistoryHenry Pelham (1696-1754), son of Thomas, 1st Baron Pelham, and brother of Thomas Pelham-Holles, 1st Duke of Newcastle under Lyne, was a politician and statesman. He held office as Secretary at War, Paymaster of the Forces, First Lord of the Treasury, Chancellor of the Exchequer and was the equivalent of First Minister (or Prime Minister). His correspondence shows the web of political influence and patronage established by Pelham and his brother, Thomas.
