| Admin History | General Sir Henry Clinton (c.1738-1795) was the son of George Clinton (c.1685-1761), who had been Governor of Newfoundland, 1732 and New York, 1741, and was the younger son of Sir Francis Fiennes Clinton, 6th Earl of Lincoln. General Clinton was a distinguished soldier who served in Germany, 1760-1762 and North America, 1766-1782, during the American War of Independence. He was cousin to the 2nd Duke of Newcastle under Lyne. |
