Content Description
Image shows a full length portrait of the 1st Duke of Newcastle wearing Peer's Parliamentary Robes, with the jewel of the Garter and the white wand of the office of Lord Chamberlain; the Duke is depicted standing in front of a large column with pedestal on which is carved his coat-of-arms and coronet.
Original painting by Sir Godfrey Kneller, c.1718-1723.
The Newcastle portraits were given to the University of Nottingham in 1991; they hang at various locations; the image catalogued here is from a copy print series taken in 1992.
