Content DescriptionTwo black and white prints, which contain images of the top and bottom halves of a certificate from Mr Alderman Barber and Mr Councillor Pratt on behalf of Council of the Borough of Nottingham "to congratulate the Mayor Edward Gripper esquire on the excellent arrangements made by him for the opening of the University College in this Borough by H.R.H. the Duke of Albany K.G. and for the dignity, liberality and spirit with which he discharged the duties of his office on that occasion, and this Council doth hereby tender to him and to the Sherrif Henry Smith Cropper esquire its' warmest thanks for the generous hospitality displayed on that occasion".

Stamp on reverse: D.W. Roberts, Horley Electrical, Horley, Surrey.

Reverse of photograph is endorsed: "I recently photographed this illuminated manuscript. As it concerns your college I'm sending you a copy".

Accompanied by an envelope and compliments slip dated 11-15 May 1968.

Date: The original Testimonial is dated 1881, but the photograph was probably taken in 1968.
