Content DescriptionExpresses surprise that Lord Middleton has asked him [Brough] to take steps at Newark without first consulting her; gives details of what she knows of Lord Middleton's intentions; says she has told Lord Middleton that 'we' [i.e. the Newcastle party] have no chance of being beaten out of Newark; notes that Lord Middleton previously asked her if she intended to introduce a second member, or whether she would join him if he offered one; she informed Lord Middleton that she had 'no thoughts in any case of offering a second member on the Newcastle Interest at Newark', and in the event of the Suttons giving up there, she would be prepared to join with him; says she sought an assurance from Lord Middleton that if he did offer a candidate she [Duchess of Newcastle] would be one of the first to be informed; concludes by sending greetings to several local people.
