Admin History | Marion Dunsmuir Stillie was born on 30 April 1899. She was a pupil at Arkwright Street Junior School and Mundella Secondary School, Nottingham. She passed her matriculation examination in 1916 and was a full-time student at University College, Nottingham from 1917 to 1919. She was awarded a Board of Education Elementary Teachers' Certificate in 1919. After leaving college, she began working at Trent Bridge Council Girls School.
She married John Patterson in 1924 with whom she had three children. |

Description | The collection contains photographs and certificates relating to the education and associated activities of Marion Stillie while at Mundella Secondary School, Nottingham and University College Nottingham between 1911 and 1919. There are three principal series.
Group photographs featuring Marion Stillie include the following: Mundella School and University College hockey teams, undated and 1918-1919 (MS 441/1/1-3); unidentified year group, perhaps taught by Marion Stillie while at University College, c.1919 (MS 441/1/4); Arkwright Street School or Mundella School year group, 1911 (MS 441/1/5); Mundella School year group, 1914 (MS 441/1/6); University College Union Executive for 1917-1918 and 1918-1919 (MS 441/1/7-8); and University College year group, undated (MS 441/1/9);
Marion Stillie's educational certificates include ones for the Oxford Local Junior Examination, 1914; Oxford Senior Local Examination, 1915; University of London Matriculation Examination, 1916; and Board of Education Final Examination for Students in Training Colleges, 1919 (MS 441/2);
Among other papers in the collection are printed list of successes at Mundella School, 1916 and particulars of appointment of Marion Stillie at Trent Bridge Council Girls School, 1919 (MS 441/3). |
