Admin HistoryThe Medical Library was opened as a separate branch of the University Library in 1968 and a category of Rare Books was soon established, growing initially by transfer of older materials from existing stock, but added to over the years by significant gifts and occasional purchases. It now numbers over 400 items.
Custodial HistoryThe volumes remained physically in the Medical Library until 1994 when they were transferred to Special Collections.
DescriptionThe Collection comprises the general stock of medical rare books, many with a broad scientific interest.
