Description | The bulk of this collection consists of correspondence and personal papers of several members of the Galway family. In addition to the many family correspondents and letters about family and social matters, there are letters from a number of political figures such as Benjamin Disraeli, Lord Beaconsfield and Archibald Primrose, Lord Rosebery. The letters and papers relate to his activities as an M.P., Deputy Lieutenant for Nottinghamshire and his service with the Sherwood Rangers Yeomanry including in South Africa 1900-1902.
The collections also includes a vast amount of correspondence relating to estate matters in Nottinghamshire and Yorkshire. There are a considerable number of papers relating to Scrooby in Nottinghamshire which include items about the vicarage and the difficulties of acquiring an incumbent as well as references to William Brewster and the Pilgrim Fathers.
There are further items relating to coal mining, elections, railways and hunting and damage to Lady Galway's Munitions Factory at Scarborough during the First World War. There are also several printed Acts including Vesting Acts, Turnpike Road Acts, Penal Acts and Enclosure Acts.
