Admin HistoryMessrs Lee and Pemberton, solicitors of Lincoln's Inn Fields, London, were the Denison family solicitors throughout the 19th and 20th centuries. They were involved in all aspects of family legal arrangements and transactions and maintained a detailed correspondence relating to family trusts and legacy arrangements.
Custodial HistoryThe papers were deposited with the University Library by the solicitors in 1973.

The University was granted a JISC (Non Formula Funding) award to support detailed cataloguing of the Denison collection, with a focus on the political papers, in 1995.
DescriptionThe collection consists of three separate deposits made by Lee and Pemberton. The bulk of the legal papers, accounts and correspondence concern the trust arrangements arising from the death of John Evelyn Denison, Viscount Ossington (1800-1873). Subsequent accruals concern the longer term implications of the trusts and the arrangements arising from the marriages and estates of other members of the Denison family, such as Henry Denison of Babworth Hall (1847-1938), William E. Denison (1843-1916) and Wilfred V. Denison (1889-1964).

The papers include details of family stocks and shares and investments. There are items relating to the mortgaging and leasing of property, including premises on George Street, Hove, Sussex and Cavendish Square, London. The collection also includes a file of correspondence relating to the estate of Miss Susan Denison (1845-1930) and details of the will and estate of Miss Louisa Denison (1841-1919).
