The British Government adopted a policy of neutrality towards the Greek rebellion due to the influence of Stratford Canning; Candia had been promised by the Sultan of Turkey to the Pasha of Egypt; it was blockaded as it was been used by Mehemet Ali to supply Morea; conference at Poros to resolve the issue.
