Content Description | Copies of letters sent by A. Buchanan to Stratford Canning when left in charge of Constantinople archives between the departure of H.M. Embassy from that capital after the battle of Navarino until the conferences at Paris in 1828.
The British Government adopted a policy of neutrality towards the Greek rebellion due to the influence of Stratford Canning; Candia had been promised by the Sultan of Turkey to the Pasha of Egypt; it was blockaded as it was been used by Mehemet Ali to supply Morea; conference at Poros to resolve the issue. |
