Content Description | Letters from Baron Bloomfield, Vienna, to A. Buchanan; the letters in this volume were used by Sir A.W. Ward in his chapter The Schleswig-Holstein Question 1852-1866 published in Vol II of The Cambridge History of Foreign Policy 1783-1919, Cambridge 1923; valuable for illustrating Rechberg's move towards an acceptance of Bismarck's views; were also thought valuable by Ward for Bloomfield's attitudes to Lord Russell and to the growing practice of publishing Blue-Books; letters from Andrew Buchanan to Lord Russell at the Foreign Office (Prussia 546-8 and 553).
Also contains references to King Otto I of Greece, who was formerly of the Royal house of Bavaria; in 1863 the Greek throne was taken over by George I of the Royal house of Denmark. |
