Admin HistoryThis is an artificial collection of thirty-two Nottinghamshire maps detached from various seventeenth- to nineteenth-century atlases.
Custodial HistoryThe maps came to the University Library from a local headteacher, after whom the Collection is named, in 1961. Another map was added by a relative in 1983.
DescriptionThe Collection consists of thirty-two maps dating from 1585 to 1860. Twenty-nine are county maps of Nottinghamshire, two are 'road maps', which traverse parts of Nottinghamshire and one, the earliest, by Gerard Mercator is a regional map which includes Nottinghamshire.
