Admin HistoryThe Boston and Wainfleet Steam Navigation Company (later known as The Boston, Wainfleet and London Steam Navigation Company) was established as a joint stock company in 1836. Its purpose was to carry passengers, cattle, goods, wares and merchandise between Boston and Wainfleet in Lincolnshire, and London, using steam vessels. The company's capital stock was £40,000, divided into 1,600 shares of £25 each. The company had a wharf at Wainfleet, and another at Scotia Creek just south of Boston. The company's first vessel was called the Scotia. By 1842 two vessels per week were travelling to London. Little more is known of the company, but it probably did not survive long after the opening of the Boston railway in 1848.
