Admin HistoryThe collection consists of works written by or published by Charles Knight (1791-1873) the Victorian author, editor, publisher and popular educator.
Custodial HistoryThe collection is based on a core of material given to the Library in 1983 by Mr. William Clowes. It has grown as a result of the transfer of appropriate items from the general library stock, but is also added to by purchase and donation.
DescriptionKnight's principal publications are represented in the collection, including runs of his Penny Cyclopedia as well as his Popular History of England, Half Hours with the Best Authors and The Arts and Industry of all Nations. His editions of the works of Shakespeare and other familiar English classics are also present.
