Content DescriptionComments on Grey's resignation following defeat of his reform bill in the House of Lords; states that the King had refused to make new peers to ensure the bill was carried; informs him the King was advised by Lord Lyndhurst as to whether he should ask the Duke of Wellington to form a Government; thought the effect of the Irish Reform Bill would be to give power to 'Catholic demagogues and to annihilate the Orange Party - in short to make O'Connell King of Ireland'; states he had not seen Sir Robert G [Gordon], but had heard he spoke of a return once his [Buchanan's] mission terminated; states Perier's death was a blow to the French system; asks to be remembered to Cartwright.
