Content DescriptionAn answer to the orders to be observed within the Archdeaconry of Nottingham by virtue of letters sent from Her Majesty's Privy Council: churchwardens present the following: since the exhibiting of the orders, the inhabitants have forborne their suppers on Wednesdays, Fridays and fasting days; the inhabitants do not eat flesh on any day appointed to eat fish; no men of wealth in the parish have absented themselves from their own houses in this time of dearth to sojourn with others; our minister does use public prayer on Wednesdays and Fridays in our parish church, and the people orderly and reverently frequent there; the collectors of the poor do carefully gather the devotion of well-disposed people and do bestow the same daily as need requires; our minister does reside on his benefice and in keeping house and relieving his poor neighbours gives a good example to his flock; he has only one benefice; our minister does exhort the rich to bestow that on their poor brethren which they spare in forbearing suppers on fasting days; also he exhorts them to set the poor on work and to give charitable alms; the inhabitants do exhort the poor to bear this dearth patiently.
